2013 Events

This provides you with a reminder of who we have had as guest speakers at the club and what activities had been provided for the club members in 2013.

December 2013 saw the return of the club’s annual Slot Car challenge. Club members were invited to bring family and friends along, who enjoyed a buffet supper during the event. A report of the evening, including photos and a full results list, can be found here.

Members & guests enjoyed two films, ‘The Cobra Ferrari Wars’, and ‘The Life and Races of Mike Hawthorn’.

This month, we were joined by Bill Davies, who gave a fascinating talk entitled ‘On and Off the Footplate’, when the ex-train driver talked about his varied and interesting 43-year career as a train driver.

In September, members were joined by Alex Evans, who talked about his time spent working at Standard Triumph.

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Dambusters Raid, members and guests enjoyed a lecture by 617 Historian Jim Shortland.

Our speaker this month was Bob Dance. Bob has spent over 50 years in the motor racing industry with teams such as Lotus, March, and Brabham. Bob, with the assistance of Mike Pilbeam was able to recall many interesting events from his career in the sport.

Thanks to the help of motoring journalist Mike Jiggle, we had an excellent evening with Tim Parnell, past racing manger with BRM. Mike took Tim through different parts of his life by means of pictures of the period.

Chris Alford who races in historic club meetings, gave an interesting talk of his life in racing and the people has raced against.

Peter Baldwin, racing driver,  gave a talk about his life in racing Minis. A very successful career and he is still racing even though he is over 70 years old. Also in this month a group of members made a trip to the headquarters of Classic Team Lotus in Norfolk.

Ron Lea was our speaker this evening as he talked about his life, especially about his close association with Jaguar racing.

Colin Crabbe entertained us with a walk through his life and the cars that he had been involved with, together with his racing experiences.
