Due to work committments, the planned Slot Car Racing evening will not take place on 19 January.
Instead we will have a Film Show 'Le Mans : In the lap of the Gods'.
It tells the story of Martin Shorts privateer entry into the 2007 Le Mans 24 hrs race. Martin runs his company Rollcentre Racing from Cambridgeshire and the film shows the story of the monumental effort required to get the car to the race, qualify and run at over 200 mph in the race. The film captures the highs and lows, the hardship and excitement that comes with an entry into the ultimate endurance test.
Bigger Picture ( the producers of the film ) have also kindly donated a copy of their book "Grand Prix: The Killer Years" which will be the first prize in our raffle that evening. The raffle proceeds will be going to charity.
The book 'Grand Prix the Killer Years' is a collection of the original interview transcripts, taken directly from the Bigger Picture film tapes. From World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi crying in the car park, to Sir Jackie Stewart and Jackie Oliver narrowly avoiding death, the interviews offer a candid insight into the time when a driver being killed in a Grand Prix had become normal.
Featuring many famous drivers including three World Champions, Emerson Fittipaldi, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, John Surtees OBE, this fascinating book is a perfect addition to any collection and a must read for anyone who has seen the film or loves Grand Prix.
Doors open 19:30 for subscription renewals. Film starts at 20:00
We have just heard that Martin Short, the owner of Rollcentre Racing and star of the film Le Mans Lap of the Gods, plans to attend the BMRC film night on 19th January and will be happy to talk to people and answer questions about his Le Mans adventures.
